The Latin phrase “ex voto” literally means following a vote. The complete expression is “ex voto suscepto“, that is, by vow made: an object given as a gift to a divinity. It is a practice used in many religions and it is a thank you for a grace received. Ultimately, ex-voto is behavior.
The ex voto object is only the final manifestation of this process: event, request for intervention, fulfillment and finally pilgrimage and exhibition of the object, precisely, by grace received.
